Create a funky, steampunk-style mixed media pendant with some easy-to-find hardware, 2 different kinds of zipper, and a beautiful artisan-made lampwork bead. Students will learn to work with zipper, repurposed hardware, create a bail and how to oxidize and finish their own unique pendant.

  • ruler
  • use of: liver of sulfur, polishing pads
  • printed tutorial

  • bent nose pliers
  • chain nose pliers
  • round nose pliers
  • nylon pliers
  • flush cutters
  • reading glasses/magnification
  • task lamp with extension cord if needed

The instructor will bring some tools to share. Students may purchase additional kits or beads if they choose.

Maria Richmond
Artist Maria Richmond draws her inspiration from the possibilities she sees in ordinary objects and materials. While she plays with wire, she often envisions unique ways of combining traditional, repurposed and found objects into her creations. She lives and teaches in Western Pennsylvania. Her basic and intermediate level classes are known for their relaxed atmosphere. Her goal is to help her students find their own creative voices and the endless possibilities in the seemingly mundane.
