Itchin' to Etch

Description:
Take your crafting and jewelry making techniques in new directions. Learn how to etch on metal, glass and even wood!

Work with three techniques in one class and maximize your creative potential. Get hands on experience with two types of etching, one on brass or copper and the other on glass.

Finish class etching wood using traditional techniques with a twist.

Finished components can be used for jewelry or home decor projects.

Cost of required kit: (payable to instructor in class) $25

Kit includes:
  • Metal, glass and wood for the projects
  • Etching solutions and stains for wood
  • Cleaning and resist supplies
  • Access to wood burners
  • use of etching solutions
Supplies to bring:
  • interesting and detailed rubber stamps
  • paper punches
  • a plastic container (shoebox size)
  • an old toothbrush for cleaning
  • safety glasses
Students should also be mindful that the etching solution can stain, so wear your 'craft clothes'.

Steven James teaches a unique D.I.Y. approach to creative living through his website, macaroniandglitter.com.
